John the Forerunner of our Lord and the Baptist. Since man closed his spiritual eyes to the light, God sent John to bear witness to that Light and His coming. A man of flesh and bones bore witness with words of preaching and discourse, with prophecy and admonition. Since man could not perceive the spirit, God used the flesh to enlighten man.
