Convent of the Meeting of the Lord in the Temple

The Convent of the Meeting of the Lord in the Temple was established in June of 1999.  A Metochion of the Holy Nativity Convent of Brookline, MA and under the omophorion of Ephraim, Metropolitan of Boston, the Convent is located in Stanwood, Washington, one hour north of Seattle and about an hour south of Vancouver, British Columbia.

A community of three tonsured nuns under Abbess Thecla, they strive to live a quiet life of prayer, while supporting themselves with their handiwork of making 100 percent pure beeswax candles.

Located on the Convent grounds, which consists of a rural ten acres bordered on one side by pastures and on another by forest, their shop, Quiet Light Candles, draws people from throughout the Northwest. The shop features their handmade tealights, votives, pillars and tapered candles, as well as a large selection of candleholders made from stone, cut glass, porcelain and pottery, and also iron chandeliers and wall fixtures. Their shop is a delight and local attraction also for the holy icons, treasures from the Holy Land, hand painted Russian folk items, raw honey, beeswax soap and lip balm, large selection of stationary items, hand-made magnets and beautiful gift boxes. Every Saturday the shop is open and candle-pouring demonstrations are given in which the benefits of burning 100% beeswax are explained, as well as the detrimental effects of using paraffin candles. The Sisters have also published a booklet entitled, The Holy and Glorious Great Martyr Phanurius the Newly-Revealed: Life, Miracles and Supplicatory Canon. This booklet is soon to go into its second printing and will be available through the Convent in Stanwood, as well as Holy Transfiguration Monastery, Holy Nativity Convent and St Nectarios Press. Anyone who would like to share an account of how St Phanurius has helped them is greatly encouraged to send their miracles to the Convent of the Meeting of the Lord.
