Circumcision of the Lord, Saint Basil the Great.

Today, the Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Boston just received word that the Suffolk County Superior Court for Civil Business has ruled decisively in our favor in the lawsuit that was filed against our Orthodox Metropolis on October 1, 2012. At that time, a small number of individuals decided to use the secular courts in order to seize control of both the Saint Mark of Ephesus Orthodox Cathedral and Saint Anna’s Orthodox Church away from the Metropolis. All of the Church documents and legal documents — backed by the relevant United States and Massachusetts court precedents — were always clear that the Saint Mark of Ephesus Orthodox Cathedral was the Cathedral Church of the Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Boston under His Eminence, Metropolitan Ephraim of Boston. Our Orthodox Metropolis gives thanks to God that, after fifteen months, the civil court has dismissed this unnecessary lawsuit. The court has ordered that the Metropolis’s Cathedral Church must be returned to the Metropolis within 30 days and that no items may be removed from the Cathedral during that time.

As we have stated in a previous written announcement, the Metropolis wants again to reassure everyone that when the canonical hierarchs and priests of the Metropolis are able to serve the Divine Liturgy in their Cathedral, all Orthodox Christian faithful will once again be welcome to attend all liturgical services and social functions at Saint Mark’s, regardless of what their former jurisdictional affiliations may have been.

We have received many kind words of support from fellow Orthodox bishops, clergy, monastics, and faithful in Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, France, and throughout North America encouraging us during the time of this lawsuit. We glorify God that the civil court has put a stop to this lawsuit, which was completely unnecessary from the beginning.

God willing, we hope to celebrate the Divine Liturgy at Saint Mark’s on Saturday, February 2/15, 2014, the Feast of the Meeting of the Lord in the Temple. All Orthodox Christians will once again be welcome at the Saint Mark of Ephesus Orthodox Cathedral in Boston.
